Caravan insurance news - Blaze rips through Gloucestershire caravan park

09 November 2009

A number of caravan insurance companies are looking into an incident at a caravan park in Gloucestershire in which an explosion caused extensive fire damage.

However, as the blaze may have been caused by an overheated supermarket delivery van, it is likely that the supermarket's commercial insurer will have to pick up the bill for the damage.

"There was a fire under the bonnet while the driver was making a delivery and thankfully no one was harmed. The cause of the fire is being investigated," said a supermarket spokesperson.

The park has many residents, including static caravan owners and motor home owners, many of whom were left frightened by the fire.

One said that the incident "was a bit of a shock."

"There was a hell of a lot damage caused," he added.

Another caravan insurance customer said that the residents "were concerned because there are a lot of elderly people… and ambulances could not get through."
